Well, I enjoy eating, too. But I enjoy research quite a bit, which is probably the number one reason that I'm currently spending major time at Carnegie Mellon getting my Ph.D. in computer science. I'm a student of Satya's, working (broadly) in the area of Systems. More specifically, I'm working in the area of mobile computing, on the Odyssey project. Most specifically, I'm interested in using function shipping as a way to compensate for adverse networking conditions.

That's all quite a mouthful, isn't it? Hopefully, as my research progresses, I'll be able to better elucidate all of this -- most notably in the form of papers. Stay tuned.

Mobile Computing Information

At CMU:

• A good starting place is the Coda/Odyssey projects' web page, which contains postscript version of many of the papers which have come from the group.
• There's also the Monarch project, which addresses the area of networking support for wireless and mobile hosts. They're doing some cool stuff with mobile IP and ad-hoc networking.
• The wearable computer folks have a page, too.

Elsewhere:

• Aline Baggio has an excellent bibliography on mobile computing.
• The MOST project at Lancaster University maintains a Mobile Computing bibliography. There is also a general page for mobile computing at Lancaster.
• There is a home page for mobile computing at Columbia University, as well. This includes their list of mobile computing resources on the WWW.
